Ashtoreth

In ancient Syrian and Phoenician mythologies, Ashtoreth was the goddess of love and fertility. She is identified with Astarte - Latin Astarte, from Greek, from Phoenician 'strt. As the great goddess of Canaan and Phoenicia, she was the equivalent of Ishtar. The lascivious rites of her worship were constantly condemned by Old Testament prophets. Cabalistic scholars later changed her gender and power to a male demon who appears like a beautiful angel but has very bad breath. This demon teaches sciences and reveals the events of the past, present, and future.
