Azazel

Biblical Demon mentioned by Rev. Hoadley in his sermon against the close presence of Satan in Dunwich shortly before he disappeared. In ancient Herbrew tradition, the rebel leader of the angels who seduced mankind. He appears in the Hebrew Old Testament (leviticus 16:1-28; Enoch 6, 8, 10). In Milton's Paradise Lost, one of the fallen angels in league with Satan. [Hebrew 'azazel, "removal," hence scapegoat (ritually "sent" into the wilderness): ez, goat + 'azl, to go.]
