Barzai the Wise

A scholar, son of a wealthy landgrave, whose knowledge of the gods became so intense that he began to think himself as great as the gods of earth.  With his disciple Atal of Ulthar, Barzai climbed Hatheg-Kla in order to discover the true nature of the gods and join them only to find that they were protected by greater gods.  He is also said to have been consulted by the burgomaster of Ulthar on the incident of the cotter and "the cats of Ulthar."  The gods drew him screaming into the sky for climbing merely the known peak of Hatheg-Kla.
