Dyer, Professor William

b. 1876.  The pipe-smoking professor of geology at Miskatonic University.  He was a member of Nathaniel Peaslee's Australian expedition and, at 54, the leader of the Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition.  Though his name is never mentioned, Professor Dyer wrote the manuscript which is known as "At the Mountains of Madness."  It is not until "The Shadow out of Time" that we can link this geology professor to the narrator of the former.
