Elagabalus

A variation on the name "Heliogabalus" adopted by Roman emperor Varius Avitus Bassianus (A.D. 204-222) and known for his capricious profligacy and extravagance.  Latinized version of "Elagabal," a Syrian sun god the emperor identified himself with.  Dr. Herbert West reminded his assistant of "a languid Elagabalus of the tombs."
