Harris, William, Jr.

b. 1759. d. 1797.  The only son and third child of William and Rhoby Harris. in 1775, Wm (a feeble 16) joined the Army of Observation under Gen. Greene.  In 1780, while a captain in the R.I. forces under Colonel Angell in New Jersey, met and married Phebe Hetfield.  Returning to Providence he took over the Harris house on what was now called Benefit Street.  Convinced the house was evil, Wm moved this family to the Golden Ball Inn and then to a house in Westminster Street across the Great Bridge in which they had a son named Dutee in 1785 before moving back across to Angell Street.  Wm and his wife died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1797.
