Whipple, Dr. Elihu

b. 1838. d. 1925-6.  A sane, conservative physician of the old school and the antiquarian, bachelor uncle of the narrator.  An amateur local historian, he had often jousted with guardians of tradition: S.S. Rider and T.W. Bicknell.  He was a white
haired, clean shaven man and lived on North Court Street.  He had served as a doctor during the Civil War.  His investigation into the Cthulhu Cult produced an interesting treatise and may have lead to his mysterious death in the winter of 1925-6.  His
nephew executed his will in 1926 and continued the investigations, for which he believes he will also be murdered.
