Whipple, Captain James

A colonial privateer of phenomenal boldness and energy who could be counted on to lead in any active measures needed to stop Joseph Curwen.  He was the engineer and commander of the raid on Friday night, April 12, 1771 on the Curwen farm.  A year later he led the mob that burned the His Majesty's armed revenue ship Gaspee, an incident forewarning the American Revolution.
